Dominium, a leading affordable housing owner, developer and manager is proud to announce today that their first ground-up new construction community in Arizona, Solstice of Mesa, was named an Exemplary Multi-Family Project by The Arizona Department of Housing. Dominium was presented the award at the 2023 Housing Hero Awards in conjunction with the 2023 Arizona Housing Forum in Tucson, Arizona.

The Housing Hero Awards recognize outstanding multifamily rental projects in urban or rural Arizona that serve low to moderate-income individuals, families, or seniors.

"At The Arizona Department of Housing, we envision an Arizona with safe, inclusive, livable communities and affordable housing options for all, said Joan Serviss, Director, Arizona Department of Housing. “Solstice of Mesa was recognized with a Housing Hero Award for its large-scale impact on seniors in need, adding vital affordable units for Arizonans.”

Solstice of Mesa was honored for providing 237 units of desperately needed affordable multifamily housing to the senior (55+) population earning no more than 60% of area median income. Each apartment home includes amenities such as full kitchen, walk in closet, laundry, covered balcony. In addition to the below-market rents, seniors enjoy exceptional amenities including a large community room, salon, and a fitness center overlooking the pool. There is also a library, business center and movie theater. The project was also recognized for its high-quality architectural design and energy efficient technology, including efficient water use.

“Dominium is honored to have Solstice of Mesa recognized by the Arizona Department of Housing,” said Owen Metz, Senior Vice President, Regional Development Leader for our Mountain West region and Phoenix office. “As our first ground-up community in Arizona, we are proud of this thriving community and the ability to provide vital affordable housing to the senior population. Solstice of Mesa is an asset to the neighborhood and the City of Mesa.”

As Arizona’s housing crisis looms, Dominium and its partners are investing over $1 billion in the state to develop affordable housing for essential workers and Arizona’s seniors. Additionally, Dominium currently has over 1,500 affordable homes under construction across the Valley, including this new community in Goodyear, with an additional 1,500 units proposed in the next few years.

Nationally, Dominium manages more than 38,000 apartments in roughly half the states across the country. Dominium has a reputation of developing high-quality properties that they own and manage for the long-term. Dominium is collaborating with the Arizona Department of Housing, the Arizona Industrial Development Authority, the Arizona Housing Coalition and a number of other investor partners to increase the number of affordable housing units in the state.
