The affordable housing developer created the position to serve its government and community relations needs as it expands its national portfolio

Dominium, a Minneapolis-based leading apartment owner, developer and manager, announced today that it has hired Paula Prahl as Vice President of Public Affairs. This is a newly created position for Dominium.

In this role, Prahl will develop a program to ensure effective and consistent interactions with governments and other key external stakeholders. The establishment of this role is critical to Dominium’s growth plan of owning 40,000 units by 2025.

“Developing affordable housing requires collaboration with communities, and government and community relations have become increasingly important to Dominium as it expands its national presence,” Prahl said. “I’m excited to join Dominium and feel my experiences have well prepared me for this role.”

“We have had increasing opportunities to work with a variety of government entities and community leaders as Dominium’s portfolio continues to grow,” said Paul Sween, managing partner of Dominium. “This fueled the need for an expert communicator in this space and we found that in Paula.”

Prahl most recently served as managing director of communications and public affairs at Varde Partners, a hedge, real estate and private equity fund based in Minneapolis.  Previously, she served over a decade as senior vice president of communications, public affairs and corporate responsibility at Best Buy and served nearly a decade as vice president of government and community relations at Honeywell. Prahl began her public policy career as the director of public policy at the Minnesota Business Partnership.

Prahl holds a BA from Smith College and an MA from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
