Meet Mary
Resident at an Active 55+ Senior Living Community
Mary is 70 years old and recently widowed. She sold the single-family home where she and her late husband raised their family, and she lives on a fixed retirement income.
She needs safe, affordable, low-maintenance housing where she can live independently. She wants to be close to her grown children and her grandkids, while making new friends and pursuing new interests in a lively, active community. She makes her home in a one-bedroom apartment at The Legends of Cottage Grove in the eastern suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Meet Zoe
Resident at a Historic Artist Lofts Community
Zoe graduated from a local art school, sings in a band and has a strong interest in landscape photography. She’s not sure whether she will pursue a career in music or photography, but enjoys both of them while holding down a job as a restaurant server.
Living at the Schmidt Artist Lofts in St. Paul, she has access to studio spaces to advance her artistic goals, and is surrounded by peers who share many of her same passions. This entire St. Paul neighborhood is experiencing a revival, with new coffee shops, restaurants, and theaters popping up. Much of this growth is directly attributable to this historic redevelopment.
Meet Christa
Resident at a Section 42 Family Community
Christa is a single mom with two kids. Recently divorced, she is new to the city and and has sole custody of her children. To say the least, Christa is busy.
She is happy knowing that there’s a solid roof over their heads and a clean, safe place to call home at Heritage Gardens in Cornelia, Georgia. She is searching for after-school and community resources for her school-age sons to free up some time for her to interview for jobs. Her goal is provide her kids with a stable home life and first-class education.
Meet Abdul and Aliyah
Residents at a Section 8 Family Community
This married couple, together with their three small children and a grandparent, recently came to America to escape turmoil and unrest in their former homeland. It’s a huge adjustment, but their kids are making new friends and especially love their new life in the U.S. The family is part of a tight-knit community, with many relatives and friends living nearby and providing a support network.
Living in a Dominium three-bedroom apartment in a northern suburb of Minneapolis is an ideal transitional residence while Abdul works to open his own business. They are laying the foundation for their own American dream, and hope to buy their own house one day.
Meet Sara and Jose
Residents at a Section 42 Apartment Community
This young couple is saddled by student debt, but is slowly paying down their financial obligations. He's enrolled in a computer IT program and sees many opportunities on the horizon. She's working for a non-profit organization that mentors young kids.
They moved into a brand-new affordable apartment at North Range Crossings in Commerce City, Colorado. They quickly made their decision after hearing about this community that conveniently connects them to their jobs through public transit. The community has some amazing amenities and the couple has already made new friends whose stories are remarkably similar.
Meet Sean
Resident at a Section 42 Accessible Apartment Community
Sean wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to live on his own again. Following his automobile accident he was confined to a wheelchair, and it was only after many months of physical therapy that he was finally able to get around using a cane.
The first day he took the keys to his own accessible home at Seven Palms in Punta Gorda, Florida was a watershed moment. The entire apartment is designed with his physical challenges in mind. Being able to live independently has given him far more independence and control. It has been a long road for Sean, but the future looks bright.
