Renters want to be green, too, and developers respond: Finance and Commerce

Industry Insights

January 3, 2012 - Incorporating green elements into an apartment complex is no longer just the exception for developers, it’s the rule. Living in a green apartment home is something developers like Dominium, have found is an important aspect for renters.

“Often, when people come to rent an apartment they will ask whether a building has energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs. Everybody wants to do their part,” said Amand Brachman, Dominium’s co-managing partner.

Another reason for the upsurge in green apartment homes is that the prices for energy-efficient components and materials reduce occupants’ cost and provide durability. This along with the fact that some green products, such as engineered flooring, can cost less than real hard wood floors but still have the look and quality of the original.

Dominium’s most recent Twin Cities projects have featured energy-efficient HVAC systems, lighting and plumbing, along with Energy Star-rated windows, shingles, insulation and other products.
