Ellsworth is located in the center of Pierce County, Wisconsin with a landscape of rolling farm land with scattered trees and just fifteen miles from the beautiful Mississippi River Valley.

Our city is primarily a rural area but is geographically considered part of the Twin City metropolitan area. Ellsworth is the county seat for Pierce County (the county itself named after U.S. President Franklin Pierce) and has been the county seat since 1851.

There’s quite a lot of year-round recreation the town offers to our residents and visitors alike. There are two outdoor skating rinks, over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and plenty of acreage for cross-country-skiing.

There are six tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course, a shooting range and archery range, along with a bevy of ball diamonds and courts for the competitively inclined. You’ll also find there are trout streams and wooded lands that lure the anglers and hunters alike.

You may want to stop by the Ellsworth Co-operative Creamery. Opened in 1908 by the Milton Dairy Company, it continues to churn out not only the butter it first produced, but also cheese, whey powder and curds as well.

In 1984 Governor Anthony S. Earl Proclaimed our town of Ellsworth the "Cheese Curd Capitol of Wisconsin."
